About

Tim Kiely, CISSP

Technology strategy, business transformation, and fractional CTO leadership grounded in more than 25 years of enterprise software experience.

I have spent most of my career translating between what a business wants and what its technology can realistically deliver.

I started as a software engineer and architect, then moved into roles that added product decisions, engineering leadership, cybersecurity, budgets, vendor choices, and technology investment governance. Over time, the questions became less about how to build a system and more about whether the system was worth building, what had to change around it, and how to know whether it worked.

At OnRamp Growth, I advise growth-stage companies on technology, AI, product, cybersecurity, and scalability. Recent work includes evaluating the feasibility, cost, operating requirements, and potential financial value of AI-agent approaches; modeling payback and risk for product investments; improving operator workflows and integrations; and building client pilots for support-email and system-alert triage.

Earlier operating roles included responsibility for an approximately $1 million annual technology budget and teams of up to 10, organization-wide review of 20–30 technology initiatives per year, product and pricing decisions, platform modernization, post-acquisition technical integration, production AI forecasting, and security programs tied to customer requirements.

Start with the business decision.Technical work is easier to judge once the choice, constraint, and intended result are explicit.
Make assumptions visible.Cost, demand, adoption, staffing, and risk assumptions should be testable rather than buried in a roadmap.
Use the simplest technology that works.AI, cloud platforms, and new frameworks are useful when they improve the economics or the operating result—not because they are new.
Measure the result.A completed project is not the same thing as realized value. The measure should be agreed before the work expands.
